Personal Invitations by parishioners are by far the most effective invites!

A long established parishioner telephoned the Parish Office this week to inform Danka that she had invited, and was bringing 14 new people to the Parish Bar B Q on Sunday 14th August, at 12Noon, at St Joseph’s.

Many parishes have become better at welcoming people. But some of these parishes are welcoming fewer and fewer people each year.

Christ calls us beyond welcoming; he calls us to invite – to reach beyond ourselves with the Word of God, offering every human an opportunity to experience God’s love in Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

Pope Francis, in his stirring exhortation, The Joy of the Gospel, laid out very clearly:

“The Church which “goes forth” is a community of missionary

disciples who take the first step, who are involved and

supportive, who bear fruit and rejoice. An evangelizing

community knows that the Lord has taken the initiative; he has

loved us first (cf. 1 Jn 4:19), and therefore we can move forward,

boldly take the initiative, go out to others, seek those who have

fallen away, stand at the crossroads and welcome the outcasts.

Such a community has an endless desire to show mercy, the fruit

of its own experience of the power of the Father’s infinite mercy.

Let us try a little harder to take the first step and to become

involved.” (#24. The Joy of the Gospel).

We cannot be a church locked up in itself; we must be a church that, of its very nature, reaches out to others. And we cannot be reaching out unless we become an inviting Church.

Look forward to meeting you and your guests at our Parish BarBQ
